Office of the Honourable Minister of Education                                                        Senator the Honourable Ruel B. Reid, CD, JP

Message From the Honourable Minister of Education, Youth and Information Senator Ruel Reid for the Marcus Garvey Technical High School 45th Anniversary and Homecoming Day

It is indeed a pleasure for me to have been offered this opportunity, to congratulate the Marcus Garvey Technical High School for achieving the lofty milestone of forty five years of existence in Jamaica. If we believe that education is a pathway to social mobility, then the institutions that offer secondary education studies can be regarded as vehicles on that pathway to growth and development for Jamaica. It has been long recognized that a secondary education is an important component in national development, and in recent times it has become even more evident that it is a major catalyst in a knowledge – driven global economy.

Forty – five years of existence, is a wonderful and opportune occasion for renewal and reflection, and I know your past students who are celebrating “Homecoming Day”, being mindful of this, will use the significance of this anniversary for renewal of relationships and a strengthening of the ties with your wider Jamaican family.

I applaud the dedicated and hardworking educators who have remained committed to improving the institution’s standard of learning. This journey would not have been possible without the contribution of those charged with the leadership and the unbreakable relationship and support rendered by the board, parents and the alumni.

As you celebrate, I wish for the institution continued success in achieving excellence for years to come. Have a blessed and truly wonderful anniversary.
